Outward Appearance

Rathel stands at around six feet exactly, appearing young even though his age is close to thirty-five. He has green eyes and medium-longish black hair that hangs from his head. He is always dressed in his armor, rarely ever seen without it. To go with his armor, he holds two thin short swords and a long wooden bow. Not comfortable with the thought of leaving them outside his care, he is also always seen carrying them on him.

If one were to see his exposed left forearm, one would find a list of tattooed names on the inside of his forearm. The list reads the following names in a vertical listing: Alekith Resaya Tassalin Caies Lucific Vafen Cessius Ceplen. The names Alekith and Caies seem to be newer and richer in ink as the others seem to have been on his arm much longer.

Background

Born as Rathel Morent to a noble family in Gondor, he would grow up in a large wealthy family. Having many siblings to come after him, Rathel only had one parent as his mother was a whore. Living under a troubled father, Rathel grew up looking up to his only eldest brother, Alekith Morent.

Finding Alekith always helping his younger brothers and sister as their father grew more and more distant, Rathel followed in his footsteps and grew a sense of protection and responsibility as he helped Alekith raise his other siblings.

When Lucifen set fire to the house at night, killing his father, all of his servants, and nearly all of his siblings, Rathel survived with Alekith, Caies, and Resaya. The four traveled together, seeking refuge but only finding it months after the fire. The long and lonely trip the four children had to seek salvation cost Resaya's life at the hands of bandits. As Alekith lost his faith to keep his family safe, Rathel couldn't find himself following him any longer and became more independent.

When a Rohirric man named Leorin found the three brothers by the road, he decided to take them into his care and raise them in the lands of the eastfold. There, Leorin taught them all of his skills, which included hunting, fighting, horse back riding, and many other useful talents. At Leorin's death, Alekith sought redemption of the death of their family by vowing to protect the innocent.

The three brothers agreed that Gondor would be the best place for them to go. The threat of southern invaders and other risks deemed worthy of their blades. Traveling south, the brothers settled in a small village near the southern border of Gondor, Tâdcelon.

The three would spent many years as sellswords to the village, eventually becoming it's main source of protection. Corrupted by the sins of the past, Caies eventually became a brigand and after a long conflict between the brothers, he burned the village down and killed Alekith.

Viewing himself a failure in the eyes of those who enlisted, needed, and wished for his blade, Rathel wandered the lands of Gondor aimlessly. Having no direction and sense of accomplishment, he set out to honor Alekith's redemption by pledging himself a protector of the realm. With this new goal, Rathel enlisted himself in the guard of Minas Tirith.
