Background
Aglaron
The father of Armanduil witnessed the glory and struggles of the second age of Middle-earth. Aglaron, one of the Noldor, sailed fom Valinor to Middle-earth after the War of Wrath. He was a gifted craftsman, sailor and warrior. He was there when the realm of Eregion was found. There he prospered in his craft together with his kin forging the most magnificent weapons. The shadow fell over Eregion, halfway the second age, but Aglaron survived and returned to the harbor of Forlond in Lindon. There he married the beautiful Eril, who gave him a son Armanduil and a daughter Faervel. For years they lived in peace in Forlond, until the end of the second age was at hand. Aglaron awnsered the call when the last alliance between men and elves was formed. Under the banner of Gil-Galad, Aglaron fought at the plains of Dagorlad. There he found his end in the battle of Dagorlad.
Youth of Armanduil
Armanduil was born in Forlond year 3035 of the second age, the first and only son of Aglaron and Eril. And 12 years later his sister Faervel was born. For a long time they lived a good life together in Forlond. That changed as the news of the death of his father on the fields of Dagorlad reached him, he wished he could have been there with him. Yet Aglaron did not allow his son to come with him. When his death was mourned, Armanduil dedicated his life to work and training. The first half of the third age Armanduil lived an untroubled and peaceful life, away from the constant strife that was found around Middle-earth. He worked at the docks of Forlond and would soon learn a great deal about seafaring and ship maintenance. Furthermore, his skill of arms was properly trained, Armanduil seemed gifted with a bow and spear. Meanwhile Armanduil had grown a strong bond with his sister Faervel and his mother Eril. Although they were quite independent, Armanduil felt responsible for their safety and well-being.
The Battle of Fornost
In the year 1975 of the third age, Armanduil fought the greatest battle of his time. Under the banner of Círdan he rode to Arnor to shadow lands of Angmar. A great host of Lindon fought alongside the men of Gondor to face the shadow of the north. When Glorfindel his host joined the war, the battle was soon decided. It was a hard fought battle, Armanduil was horrified by the vileness he encountered and had grown a hatred against the creatures that dwell in the shadow. This war had changed many thoughts, although the battle was won, he never saw so many slain kinsmen mutilated on the ground. Here he wondered for the first time, if middle-earth was worth dying for. Nevertheless, he returned to Lindon and picked up his old life again.
Strange tidings
The worlds withering could be felt even in the west, something that his mother Eril often spoke of. A wish that remained silent for many years became outspoken, Eril’s wish to return to Valinor never was so strong. Her wish was soon forgotten as a strange fate befell Faervel. In the year 2878 of the third age, Faervel disappeared. With no clear reason, with no lead or motive or any sign of struggle Faervel vanished, leaving Eril and Armanduil with nothing but questions. The same year, Armanduil rode throughout Eriador in search for his sister, but had not found a trace. He returned empty handed to his mother. The years that followed were grim, and no sign reached them about the fate of Faervel. Whether it was a dream or a terrifying vision, Armanduil saw her in dark places amongst evil faces of men. He believed it was more than a mere dream that had entered his mind and decided to follow it, in the year 2990 he went to look for his sister again, a journey that took him to the desolate brown lands. But to no avail. Whether it was real or not, Armanduil sometimes heard her voice in the wind, saw her face in the water reflection, it kept him wandering around middle earth, from dark forests to stinking marshes. Until after three years he gave up his search, which had become an obsession and a shadow on his mind. When he returned to Forlond without his sister, Eril was devastated. Years passed as they picked up their lives. Eril had given up on the thought that Faervel would ever return, only Armanduil had a glimmer of hope that she would. Eril’s wish to leave middle-earth had returned and she was pleading for her son to come with her, together with many of his kin. Armanduil avoided the subject as he was not ready to give up his sister. This went off and on, until Eril set an ultimatum within one year she would leave these shores, with or without him. Armanduil needed time to clear his mind, alone and far away from Forlond. In the vale of Imladris he would find the wisdom to make this decision, or so he hopes.
