Nolomir was born in the bliss of Gondolin, in the First Age of the Sun. A young scholar who worked in the libraries of Master Pengolodh, Nolomir had barely reached his majority when Gondolin fell, and first saw battle while defending his mother and gravely wounded father during the flight from the city. Yet his entire family survived and made a new life in the Havens of Sirion, where Nolomir's skills were called upon in the laborious task of recovering the remains of the once-glorious archives of Gondolin. 

Though he grew young and hale, with the fire of the Noldor in his eyes, his mother warned him with the foresight given her that it would not be his destiny to find love until two Ages of ruin and war were past. After the ruin of Beleriand in the War of Wrath, Nolomir settled in Lindon, later moving to Imladris after the fall of Eregion in the Second Age. Henceforth he gave his name in the Grey-Elven tongue as Golmîr. Here he served as one of the head scholars in the archives in Imladris, and a member of the council of Imladris along with Lords Erestor and Glorfindel.

Early in the Third Age, all Imladris rejoiced when a host of Sindar came from Lórien, conveying Lady Celebrian to her marriage with Lord Elrond. It was then that Golmîr met the gentle seamstress Tinuilos, and love was kindled in his heart. A son, Tancamir,  and two daughters, Uilossiel and Tinwen, were born to them in Imladris.
