Languages Spoken: As a first language, he speaks Westron. He can also speak very broken and poor Rohirric and pick up a few words in Haradiac. This is due to dealing with foreigners within Bree as well as previously working in a Rohirric noble house. However, he is by no means fluent in any other language.

Brigwald is a tall man with broad shoulders and a stocky build. Some women may have considered him handsome, if he had ever smiled. Now, the majority of his face is burnt and scarred. Only those that knew him now would still be able to recognize him. A large red scar runs down the length of his face and over the right side of his eye. Typically, he sports light armour. However, in the case of a battle he wears a much heavier plate armour.

Background

Brigwald was born in Bree-land and raised as an orphan by a woman who he rarely talks about. By the age of sixteen, he was recruited to the Lover's Blades, a group of sell swords who had a detail in Bree specifically for the training of guards to guard wealthy merchants from the bandits that run rampant outside the city walls. For many years he stayed here until he was twenty-five. Then he traveled around Bree-land and the North Downs, finding work where he could. By the age of twenty-eight, he was recognized as a solid tactical strategist by the local guards and armies and a few citizens who were more militarily inclined. Around this time, he was recruited to serve as the Captain of the Guard for House Estellin's Aellwenn for a very brief period of time. After her disappearance he took up work in the Bree-Watch and worked his way up through the ranks very quickly. After only five years he earned a promotion to the rank of Chief-Watcher of Combe. Not long after the former Second-Watcher stepped down and he was chosen to fill the position. He held both these positions for quite some time.

Ultimately, Brigwald was promoted to the rank of Captain and became known as Captain Stoneheart, due to his cold nature and persona as well as the emotionless, black and white justice he enforced as well as the fact that he had never been seen smiling. There are many theories as to why this may be but most are far-fetched and others are simply untrue. Parents use him as a bogeyman into threatening their children to behave.

During his time as Captain, he was captured and tortured by a madman for several months. Upon escaping, he realized that he was within the hedge of Bree the entire time. Because of that, he grew extremely angry with Nessya for not being more vigilant in her search. Especially when he found out that not a single search party had been sent out to pursue him. He now feels that his former pupil is corrupt and evil, more concerned with her own agenda (i.e. taking up the position of Captain rather than searching for him) than the safety of the people of Bree. Now his main motive is to oust her from power and usurp the position for himself, believing that he's much more concerned with Bree and its security.
