Name: Raendis Ithilael

Age: 19

Ethnicity: Gondorian

Height: Petite, not much over 5 feet

Eye colour: A special feature of Raendis are her eyes. From afar they seem bright but if one looks closer, it is visible that her eyes differ in colour. Her left eye is grey, her right eye, green. Her eyes are big and appealing, with long, thick eyelashes.

Skin: Raen's skin is lily-white and soft on touch.

Physique:Very thin and lithe. Heavy clothing on it hides the fact she borders on malnourished, something she had learned to live with in her early youth. Raen appears very fragile and lacks curves, she also appears flat-chested. Her arms are long and her hands are very aesthetic with long, thin finger. She has a beautiful neck though it is usually hidden from sight by an item of clothing.

Hair: Raen's hair is raven-black, very long, falling in cascades down her shoulders and back reaching her waist. It is slightly wavy and has a 'wild' appearance to it. However, her hair is when she can be seen by others kept hidden behind hoods or hats, only a curl or two falling down her brow.

Face: Raen's face is oval in shape, her striking eyes usually notices first. They differ in colour and change in shade depending on emotion. She has long eyelashes accentuating the beauty of her eyes, her well-shaped eyebrows raised if puzzled. She has a small nose and beautifully-shaped lips often extended into a smirk. When nervous or pondering, she tends to bite her lower lip. Overall, Raen's face is of striking beauty that has a certain 'elvish' feel to it.

Political afflilation: Raen is educated in politics yet belongs to no affliation, though she has a great dislike of nobles.

Education: She is well-educated, having received an education befitting nobles in her early youth in Gondor. She is well versed in history, geography, Elf and Man lore and politics, knows how trade works, speaks several languages to the point of perfection, is trained in horse-riding, blade-wielding and healing and excels in playing several instruments, harp being a personal favourite. It can be said, in fact, her education and intelligence are two of her strongest assets.

Languages spoken: Raen's specialty are languages and dialects. She speaks several of languages even dialects and variations of those to perfection and can adopt any accent in a blink. The languages she speaks to perfection are her native Westron, Rohirric, Dalish, several other languages of Men, and Sindarin. She is also learned in Quenya, yet wishes to learn more of it.

Religion: Raen follows no religion. She is learned of the 'Gods of the West' from Gondorian tales and lore but the tales hardly play a big part in her everyday life. Though she is not religious, Raen worships the Night and the Stars, in an aesthetic sense.

Weapons: Raendis was taught early in life in wielding blades and swords. Later, on her own, she bettered her skills with blades and though she is capable of using a sword, blades and daggers are her weapon of choice. She has a natural ability to use them and they are also more practical due to her small size. She has a dagger on each side of her belt, the rest are well-hidden. She has a passion for collecting beautiful blades and daggers and has a sizeable collection of them.

Occupation: Thief, con artist and now head of Night Must Fall.

Special Abilities/Skills: As stated, natural intelligence and wit are great assets to Raendis, along with an education uncommon among thieves. She is brilliant with blades and daggers--if she aims to kill, she kills. She can speak several languages and their dialects and adopts them with ease. She is skilled in healing and extremely knowledgeable of topics such as politics, history, geography and the lore of lands and peoples, music and poetry. Often she quotes passages from poems few would recognize, mostly to her own pleasure. Besides playing music and knowing poetry, she also composes and writes in solitude. She also has natural charm and disarms with ease. She is a mistress of guile and disguise.

Serious Problems/Flaws/Addictions/Disorders/Disabilities: Raendis possesses many skills and talents but has a darker side as well. Due to a painful past, Raendis has developed an inability to trust and a quick tendency to feel rejected ad betrayed. She can be quick to see hostility and dark agendas in people whether they are there or not, which can cloud her reason. A passionate and hot-headed person, she is quick to such negative feelings taking over reason. Though quick to anger as to other negative feelings,, Raendis is skilled in hiding her true feelings, though only to a certain point. I her anger is aroused enough, her anger is terrible. And yet Raendis exudes confidence, some might even say vanity. She is extremely proud to the point of arrogance and can be cynical, acerbic, mordant and even cruel in words and manner. Because Raen tends to hide her emotions, she has a love for brandy and other spirits to calm her nerves and always has a bottle nearby.

Clothing: In her early youth, Raendis developed a passion for beautiful gowns of finest Gondorian make, a love of which she retains to this day. She rarely wears anymore because they are not practical, but at times she climbs the rooftops of Bree in gowns of great beauty, apparently of Elven make, made of velvet and silk where she plays to herself. But in everyday sightings, Raendis is most often seen in high leather boots, tight leggings, a belt around her waist, a dagger at each side visible along with a small coin purse, comfortable vests, jackets or loose blouses to hide her flat chest and slim figure. Besides this, Raendis is fond of cloaks and hoods and also an occasional hat. All of these cover her hair and eyes often so only a smirk is seen from underneath.

Character: Raendis is a bit of a mystery. She keeps low and only keeps in company of selected people. Those who are able to get to spend time with her know she refuses to speak of her past, and if pushed, entertains herself by spinning tall tales of it. Raendis can only be known by few people she lets close, something she is very careful with and even then, she keeps a lot to herself. This is due to painful experiences from her past that hurt her deeply, made her distrust people and wall herself up from any pain. Thus, what Raendis feels and what Raendis shows are often two different things. Raendis projects a commanding presence of great charisma and charm. She does not speak much, but when she does, her words carry weight. She always appears collected though passions often brew under the surface. She keeps a lot to herself and only allows people to get to a certain point, not too close, at which point she feels threatened. She remains a puzzle to most and hates if anyone attempts to 'analyze' her. She is extremely guarded and does not let on to many of her thoughts and feelings, all due to her past. She appears strong in spirit if not body. She has a natural charm and wit, though she can be bitterly sarcastic and even cruel in her words and behaviour. She exudes an air of indifference, not often laughing but smirking to herself. She appears very confident, even arrogant and is proud to a fault, to the point that she fails to see faults in herself. She is even neurotic, but hides it very well. When in great stress, she likes to drink, never talk to anyone. Her troubles are her own. She likes the feeling of being in charge and command and despises her insecurities. In her attempts to shield herself from pain, she fails to see that she can deeply hurt people herself. She does not show her feelings much and does not express easily if she likes someone, for them it may as well seem like she does not care at all. Raendis is a figure of mystery that charms and commands full attention, a charismatic figure that makes her a natural leader yet also a deeply wounded individual, though at this point she has learned to hide any weaknesses from the world.

Background

Raendis was born about 19 years ago in Gondor, the only daughter of a youngest son of a Gondorian noble and an unnamed Rohan servant girl who passed away giving brith to her. She was the last child of her father, and only daughter, but not the first. Her father was a notorious rake that lived upon the laurels and glories of his warrior father and was prone to drink and women. Besides two legitimate sons by his wife, he also fathered a number of illegitimate sons with several other women who he abandoned. In his forties, he took to favour and seduced a not yet 16-year old lovely servant girl from Rohan, who gave birth to his daughter. She passed away at childbirth and since the little girl did not have a mother or a father, who soon after lost his life in a brawl over past grievances, she was taken pity upon and secretly provided for by her grandfather, so that his legitimate heirs would not hold grudges.

The little girl was named by her grandfather in Sindarin, Raendis. Though he could not look after her for fear of invoking the wrath of his late son's wife and heirs, he made sure she was provided for and well-educated in the best homes of Gondor. So it was that Raendis grew and since learning of possessing a Sindarin name she loved all that was Elvish. Strong ties had Gondor with the Elves from times of old and Raendis learned all of it and was enthralled. From a young age Raendis learned to speak Sindarin fluently and set it in her heart to visit one day the Elven-realms that stood still for in the culture and languages f the Elves she found beauty like no other and ever since all Elven was close to the young girl's heart. In those days Raendis was provided the best education which besides learning proper Westron, lore of Men and Elves, Sindarin and music included horse-riding, blade-wielding, healing, history and politics. In those time as well the young girl grew used to robes and gowns of the finest Gondorian make and bright circlets to grace her brow.

But there came a time when Raendis' grandfather passed away unexpectedly and his son's kin battled for his estate and coin and there was none to provide further for Raendis. Thus it was that at the age of about 14, Raendis was no longer welcome in the fine Gondorian homes for no coin came for her anymore and so it was that she found herself alone and uncared for on the streets, far from the noble surroundings she had known before. Alone on the streets, her fine education was of no use to Raendis there, so Raendis had only her natural charm and wit to rely on. At first Raendis played music for coin, but soon discovered music did not bring much coin on the streets and so she often went hungry in her early years on the streets-in times having learn to forget hunger, to this day she appear extremely thin--, she got used to the harsh conditions on the streets, learning to live in harsh cold, near starvation, hostile surroundings and back-streets hiding the unscrupulous and the shady and quickly learned the ways of the back-streets in the night. It was then that Raendis found herself among the people of the night.

Using her charm and quick wit to her advantage, Raendis found herself in the crowds she never knew existed before, of wanderers, drifters, thieves and con artists that inhabited the shadowed streets and roof-tops of Gondor. Quickly, Raendis learned their ways and with her charm and education schemed her way into the charmed lives of the nobles, appearing as one of them yet  holding a deep hatred for them and having become an expert thief and conwoman by then. Gone, at least on the surface was by then the girl who loved things of beauty an learning, instead Raendis appeared by then hardened by her beloved home of Gondor that had expelled her. Her manner became sardonic, mordant and cynical, her expression tough and sharp. After great success in her new calling, there came more dark times for Raendis when she found that the thieves and con artists whose company she was a part of, held no honour even among themselves.

Ironically, it was the one event Raendis was not apart of that shattered her already fragile trust and made her leave Gondor. It happened that a part of the company of a band of thieves Raendis was a part of was blinded by greed and decided to execute a robbery of a wealthy noble House without the months of planning and preparation that was put into it before. The company was divided, a part of them refusing to partake in the unplanned robbery, Raendis among them. The rest went on with it in the hope of earning much coin easily. Instead, the attempted robbery ended in a House of nobles murdered along with many of the thieves. The surviving thieves were soon caught and in an effort to clear their names pointed their fingers at the thieves who did not take part in it. Word spread quickly and Raendis saw those she saw before as the closest thing to family she had known betray her and those accused along her leaving her on her own, each making a run on their own. Alone and in fear, Raendis learned of the hangings of a few of the thieves that were accused of the crime beside her, the rest having disappeared without a trace. Though using false names, her likeness was sought for the terrible crime and though he trust was shattered, Raendis used her charm, guile and talent at harp-playing to join a travelling caravan of minstrels that were passing through. With them, Raendis travelled to Bree-land and before her ruse could be discovered, she parted ways with them and hid in Bree.

It is in Bree a new chapter began in the life of Raendis. In Bree, Raendis was now far from Gondor, hidden in the shadows and yet feeling more alone and hurt than ever. And yet Raendis quickly learned of the shadowy corners, the rooftops, the backstreets, the hidden rooms and hallsof Bree and of the smiliar kinds she knew in Gondor that lingered there. Alone and with no coin on the streets again, Raendis again fell into the shadowy crowds and resumed her thieving ways. And yet she trusted nobody by this point and refused to commit herself to any one company of the unscrupulous kind. Instead, Raendis worked for coin, alone, and on the way met similar wandered in the night with no direction, no trust, no hope and no future. It was then that Raendis decided to lead her own company of Night people, people that operate under the cover of Night whether it be sellswords and mercenaries or thieves and con artists. In her mind she called the company 'Night Must Fall' for Night falls always and those who remain hidden under daylight emerge then and use its charms to their advantage. Now Raendis finds herself as a leader of Night Must Fall and tries her best to keep her insecurities, feelings of rejection and inability to trust again to show and prevent her from being a figure in the shadows to be reckoned with.
