Outward Appearance

She has long blonde hair, but almost always tied in a ponytail for convenience. Her most notable feature are her eyes. They are like deep crystal-blue lagoons glowing with the radiance of the elves' eyes. She spends much time outdoors and traveling, usually wearing comfortable clothes in shades of green and a hooded cloak. The rare times when not in the wilderness or traveling, she usually wear simple clothes, without many frills. When in battle, she wears a dark green hauberk, leather boots and gloves, and a steel helmet that protects her head and part of the face. She usually shows herself reserved and rough, because she is not used to dealing with people. Those who know her better, say she is stubborn and headstrong but also energetic, enterprising and attentive, and always very helpful to her Kinmates, to whom she owes great loyalty and not less respect.

Background

Sarunniel Tinnumiriel was born year 3439 of the Second Age, somewhere in Greenwood The Great.

His father, Eleyond, and his mother, Eriathwen, were Laiquendi elves of Ossiriand, which after the sinking of Beleriand migrated east to cross the Anduin and settled in what is now known as Mirkwood.

An only daughter, she never knew her father, a great marksman as described by their relatives. When Eriathwen was pregnant, Eleyond joined the ranks of the Last Alliance Army, led by Gil-Galad and Elendil, who was fighting the forces of Sauron and was in full siege of Barad-Dur. A few months after the birth of Sarunniel, Eleyond fell in battle, hit by a volley of flaming darts that the servants of Sauron spat from the Dark Tower. Only his magnificent bow, Tog-Calad (<<The Bringer of Light>>) returned from the dark land of Mordor.

Sarunniel was raised by her mother in Greenwood the Great. Eriathwen wanted to instruct her in the healing arts, music and dance, but since a child, Sarunniel revealed to have inherited the restless and combative spirit of her father. She rather preferred the bow to the harp, and the wilderness to the dance. Over time, Eriathwen abandoned the idea of instilling in Sarunniel the love for the arts, because that would oppose to her spirit and didn't want that, so she encouraged her to develop her potential as a scout and tracker, always under the supervision of the experienced hunters of Greenwood the Great, most of the time hiding to the eyes of Sarunniel.

At the age of 100, Sarunniel already was a young elf accustomed to moving through the forest stealthily, to sleep rough and to track wolves and other predators, without them perceiving her presence. Her skill with the bow was also important, although she usually didn't liked to use it except in case of need.

In general, those were happy years, but during that time she never left her home, and she caught a bit of the reserved character, almost unsociable, from the elves of Greenwood the Great, although after all, perhaps that was no more than a kind of self-protection from outside dangers.

In the year 109 of the Third Age, Sarunniel was among a group of explorers that accompanied a small party of elves from Greenwood the Great to the celebrations for the wedding of Elrond & Celebrian in Imladris. It was the first time Sarunniel left the confines of her home and it was a great experience for her traveling to Imladris through the High Pass.

The peace and beauty of the valley of Rivendell captivated her so much and she decided to settle there for a while, knowing other customs and exploring the Trollshaws (always staying at the east side of the Bruinen), and the Misty Mountains, where she continued improving her skills as a tracker.

In Rivendell she struck up a good friendship with Hemeldir, chief blacksmith of the valley, to whom she came regularly for repairs and minor modifications to her weapons. Hemeldir saw potential in the strong arms and delicate hands of Sarunniel and taught her how to recognize the mineral veins and how to transform the ores into valuable ingots. He also introduced her to the art of jewellery.

But not everything was happy during his time in Rivendell. Some years later she received the surprising visit of her mother, Eriathwen, who had traveled to Rivendell with a group of elves who were heading west to the Grey Havens, to take a boat to Valinor. The news saddened Sarunniel, but Eriathwen was resolved to do it and there was no turning back. She could never overcome the loss of Eleyond and although their daughter had partly filled the void he had left in her soul, was not enough, and it was time to leave these lands.
