Background
Childhood
Dakmari, or 'Mari' as her friends have often called her, was born and raised in Forochel. The girl was always a little bit different, but who wasn't? Each has their own strengths, weaknesses, and oddities, though some may remain unseen for some time. Mari's strength was in just that: her strength. Even as a child she was always beating her friends in their rough games, often letting them lead to full fledged fights just for fun. When the girl grew old enough, it was obvious what trade she would go into. At the age of fifteen she was given into the service of a warrior, to act as a shield bearer, squire, and servant.
Outcast
During the girl's time in service to her master, Viveka, they went through all kinds of adversity. Unfortunately, after several years, their time was cut short when her mistress opposed the leaders of their clan. Viveka was cast out of the tribe, and Mari found herself in a difficult place. Stay and face the tribe, with Viveka's memory on her and tainting her ability to fit in, or leave to chase after the woman? There was no question for her. She might have been a little rough around the edges, but she was loyal as a hound, following after the woman all the way to Bree against the wishes of her people.
Disability
While on her journey, Mari came across some difficulty. It was not far into her trek that she came across the wrong side of a predator, one of Forochel's great felines. She was happy only to live, though she almost did not. The spear she skewered the thing with was not set in the ground, for she'd had no time, and it was not long enough to hold the thing at bay, having taken a smaller version for ease of travel. The weapon had put enough distance between herself and the cat to spare her life, but her throat was damaged, and now speaking comes as a pain to her, and thus, is done rarely.
Bree
After finally getting to Bree, Mari was once again united with her mistress, but having only served as a warriors aid, now living in a peaceful land, what was her role? She still hasn't found out quite what she should do with herself, but her starting place is to learn how to live with herself. Once a loud and bold figure, she was reduced to silence, and found herself shamed in her own eyes.
