Finndarion was born and lived peacefully for centuries in a small elvish settlement in Mirkwood. There he married the gorgeous Elleríand, the love of his life, enjoying a blessed and happy life with her, dedicated to the Woodworking craft in which he had earned some notoriety, and being summoned occasionally to patrol the borders of the forest against incursions of the minions of the Enemy.

Some years after The Battle of the Five Armies, Elleriand and him decided that the world was peaceful enough for them to start begetting children. However, an ambush to their settlement by Orcs, while Elleriand was expecting and Finndarion was miles away on patrol, razed their village to the ground. When his group received the alert of the treacherous attack, he barely made it back on time, and only to find Elleriand gravely wounded.

Before hers and their child's spirits were summoned by Mandos, she made him swearing that he will not sail to Valinor until he made a dent into the plans of the Enemy. He will know when he has done enough to have his oath fulfilled.

Full of grief he left Mirkwood and willing to forswear his oath, he went to ask Círdan to allow him sailing to the West. However, the memory of Elleriand's beauty while he was traveling around Ered Luin gave him the needed strength to stop his plan and to offer his services helping with the well being of the Free People of Middle-Earth he finds in his way.
