| Outward Appearance | Farmer Mariwig Broadfoot is a middle aged hobbit of Stoor ancestry. The older hobbit has thick brown curly hair on both his head and feet, as is common with most hobbits, however Mariwig is capable of growing a beard, due to his Stoor heritage but he usually shaves it off, so as not to be mistaken for a very short dwarf. Mariwig stands at three feet and six inches tall, with a fairly stocky and broad build, along with a bit of a fat stomach. Mariwig has somewhat tanned and slightly wrinkled skin, (in particular around his eyes, no doubt from all his days squinting while farming in the heat of the summer weather) along with a pair of piercing blue eyes. Mariwig speaks with a country accent for the region that he hails from. (Imagine Peter Sallis' voice of Wallace from Wallace and Gromit for an idea on how Mariwig sounds when he speaks.) Mariwig carries himself in a stoic and professional manner usually but he is known to unleash his sense of humour when he feels comfortable around those he is with at the time. |

Background
Mariwig Broadfoot was born fifty-one years ago on November 30th, 2968 into a hobbit family of Stoor heritage in Hobbiton, in the Shire. Mariwig's parents, Nardwin and Tulip ran a small farm, which had been passed down for generations within the Broadfoot family. The Broadfoot family, befitting of most hobbits, were a simple country folk preferring peace, quiet, hard-work, along with a healthy dose of fun. Nardwin and Tulip raised Mariwig in such a manners with these values front and foremost. Nardwin and Tulip were very close and dotting over Mariwig, but they were careful not to spoil him.
As time went on and Mariwig was an energetic youthful hobbit lad, Nardwin had begun to put Mariwig to work on the family farm, and as he grew older, his father gave him more responsibilities on the farm. As luck would have it, Mariwig turned out to be a gifted farmer from a young age and working on the farm with his father grew into a passion for Mariwig and a bonding activity between the father and son. Mariwig had a thirst for knowledge of agricultural and he would often rent books at the library on farming, which he'd share with his father. Now, if there was one thing that Nardwin and Mariwig loved more than farming, it was eating. And lucky for the two farmers, Tulip was was a phenomenal cook! After a long day off work on the farm, Tulip would have a delightful, multi-course meal ready for her husband, son, and herself. Occasionally on days when farm work was little, the three of them would cook large meals together and sometimes invite their extended family for a feast. Life was good within the Broadfoot family.
Nardwin also served as a volunteer bounder, as had the patriarchs of the Broadfoot family had done before, for many generations. When Nardwin would be off patrolling out and about, Mariwig would take care of his mother and run the family farm. By the time that Mariwig was in his teenage years, he itching to join his father on patrols but he was not allowed to until he had come of age. As the times grew darker, Mariwig's father was sent out to patrol more and Tulip and Mariwig were often alone at their farm, working and awaiting his return home. On Mariwig's twenty-ninth birthday, his mother and him knew something was wrong when Nardwin had not returned home overnight during one of his shifts. The mother and son told a local bounder who was nearby about their missing family member and soon a search entailed. Eventually Nardwin was fond in a forest in Michel Delving with an injured leg and a dead warg next to him. Nardwin had been attacked while on the job and he was crippled when a warg had set upon him. The news spread quickly over Michel Delving but the bounders were able to quiet the news down, in order to help keep the peace in the Shire. Much to his disappointment, Nardwin was unable to walk normally again and he was forced to use a walking stick for the remainder of his life. He was also unable tp resume his duty as a foot patrol bounder, due to his leg injury. However, due to his many years of faithful service, the bounders gave him a job in their office, in what was mainly a dispatch type of role.
On the day of his thirty-third birthday, Mariwig went out into town and enlisted as a bounder, much to his parents joy. His family threw him a large party and they had invited both their close and distant relatives to attend, along with their family friends and neighbors. It was at this party that Mariwig a young hobbit lass named Xylosma Dwellinghole. Xylosma was the youngest daughter of Wulmar Dwellinghole, a local farmer and friend of Nardwin. The two young hobbits were smitten without each almost instantly. Within a couple years the two young lovers were eventually married and Xylosma moved in with Mariwig and his parents on their farm. When Mariwig was thirty-nine years old, Xylosma gave birth to a son, whom they named Waldebert. Life could not be better for Mariwig and Xylosma. The Broadfoot farm was successful and producing great crops, Mariwig had already received his first promotion in the bounders, and the family had more than enough money to spare.
However, the good times to not always last. Nardwin ended up passing away peacefully of old age shortly after the birth of Waldebert. Which crushed Mariwig deeply. In order to cope with the death of his father, Mariwig began to work more hours as a bounder and even more hours on the farm to the point of being neglectful to his wife and son. Whenever his wife would press him to speak about what he was feeling, he stoically refused to do so. Around this time Mariwig had developed a bit of a drinking problem as well. When he and his fellow bounders would finish a shift they would often go down to the Green Dragon Inn and get drunk. Eventually, enough was enough and Xylosma told Mariwig that unless he sobered up and began to open up to her and his son about what he was struggling with emotionally, she would leave him and take Waldebert with her and move back in with her parents. Mariwig took this matter deeply to heart and he began to cut down on his alcohol consumption, along with returning to working normal hours, as well as attempting to open up about his feelings towards losing his father. Mariwig had always struggled with breaking down his walls of stoicism and opening up to others. Eventually, life was more or less back to the way it was previously.
As the years went by Mariwig began to teach his son how to farm the land and just as it was for Mariwig in his youth, Waldebert grew love of farming as well, and the two bonded over their shared love, just as Mariwig and his father had done. Mariwig eventually ended up being promoted to a leadership role in the bounders, which he took great pride in. However, Mariwig was careful not to let his volunteer work as a bounder take up a majority of his time and he was also careful not to get carried away when grabbing drinks with his fellow bounders. Mariwig was a very respected bounder but to some of the younger recruits he came off as a bit of a stick-in-the-mud type of fellow for his strict and stern personality and somewhat grumpy demeanor.
As time marched on, Waldebert had grown into a strapping, young lad. Waldebert, inspired by his father's actions, waited for his thirty-third birthday and on his special day he marched right down to the bounder office and he enlisted as a bounder, much to the pride and joy of Mariwig. To this day Mariwig considers this moment in his life one of the happiest he's ever experienced. Waldebert proved to be a very hard-working bounder, much to the joy of Mariwig, however, Mariwig refused to show his son any form of favouritism. Mariwig and Waldebert grew closer than ever before during this time.
