Bélchänar Mäeben's history takes us back far, to the days where the Fëanorians were formed during the first kinslaying in Aman. Before those days a Noldorim warrior, Thïndaer, met the Vanya maiden Mäewen. There was told that she held great beauty and her voice was heard far over the mountains of Aman, for it was so clear and magnificent. Thïndaer fell deeply in love with Mäewen and they had a child whom they called Bélchänar Mäeben. They lived in Tirion.

Bélchänar became a follower of Fingolfin (to his father's despite) and he marched with his company to Middle-Earth. Bélchänar settled down in Ondolindë (Gondolin) which was found by Turgon the Wise. The city stood for about 400 years until it was betrayed to Morgoth by Maeglin. 
Gondolin was destroyed by Morgoth's forces and Bélchänar, fortunately, did not fall himself.

Bélchänar, now a survivor of Gondolin, went to live in Hithlum until the great War of Wrath came and Beleriand was destroyed and swept into the sea. Bélchänar fought in this war and again survived. Now that Beleriand was destroyed, Bélchänar went to live in one of the few remnants of Beleriand, Harlindon. In the harbor of Harlond. There is aswell known that Bélchänar made his way to the Mithlond, the Grey Havens and lived there for some time.

During the times known as the Second age, and until the days we count in today (Third age 3018) Bélchänar is known to be wandering the lands of the Arda. His reasons are to inspire Ilúvatar's children to maintain peace and tranquility among themselves and others. Eventhough his great experience in war and battle he seems very calm, peaceful and hardly ever found speaking of the times that were. Nor would one find him promulgate about warfare and battles easily.
