Outward Appearance

Humegilras, or Hû (Hound) for whoever wishes to abbreviate his name, stands 6'3ft tall with an appropriate thin and lanky figure befitting of his Eldar heritage. He is perhaps even somewhat skinnier than most, truly leaning into grace and agility as the main factors that enable him to move and operate as a skilled forest stalker and handler of blades. His hair is a dark shade of chestnut that is bright and vibrant in the sunlight, yet dark and opaque when standing in shadows. He carries it in a long and parted mane that forever lacks any elegant detail or braiding, which seems to be a common theme in all choices related to his appearance. His face is long, baring sharp and pointed features, with skin that is light and fair without being as pale as as others of his kind, and piercing leaf green eyes that see far more than he speaks.

It is clear for those in the know that he is a descendant of the Ñoldor when all of his features are taken into account, yet this can be difficult even for the most learned of scholars to discern. This is likely a result of his aforementioned tendency to dress and appear simple, often donning a baggy and yet light robe of forest green with many brown belts and trimmings. Underneath this he wears a simple chain shirt with leather paddings, and simple breeches alongside gloves and boots to keep himself both warm and concealed. He more often than not dons a hooded cloak with a simple leaf brooch to keep it clasped around him, usually concealing the full extent of his handsome features, pointed ears and heritage so as to never draw attention to himself.

Yet despite this tendency to appear subtle and blend in the crowds, it is also true that no matter where he goes he always carries two longswords tied to the left side of his belt together, often concealed within plain and featureless sheathes that, much like most of the blades that he carries, have certainly seen better days. Even though he favors dual blades that tend to be quite heavy, it is often noted that he carries them with a light ease that speaks of centuries of learning to become one with his weapons of choice.

Background

Hû hails from Imladris, or Rivendell in the Common tongue, and was born to the union of two Ñoldor who he unfortunately did not get to spend much time with. Both were fated to travel across vast and dangerous distances and, like many who set out beyond the hidden valley, one day they simply did not return. Thus, they were proclaimed lost and mourned for well before the halfway mark of his first century. The names gifted to him by his Eldar parents, thus, have not been spoken for over six and a half centuries, and it was during his earlier journeys that Hû gave himself the name Hound of Swords in Sindarin - Humegilras.

Not long before reaching his first century of age, Hû set out in a self-proclaimed errand to explore Middle-Earth, against the better judgment and reasoning of his elders. This was a tragic journey where the price of arrogance was forever seared into his mind, and upon return he was more diligent in his obedience and attentiveness to the teachings of wiser and older Eldar. Not long after, he swore true fealty to the ways of the sword, honing his skill and even learning to blend harmonious sound and blades to create a unique yet not-unheard of style of 'bladesinging'. The act of drawing or simply moving his blades across the air, thus, can create a mesmerizing and mind-dulling effect to those of weaker will and spirit, yet this art form is one that could perhaps take millennia to be perfected.

With his new-found skills and passion, Hû spent the remainder of the six centuries of his life aiding the Eldar who depart through Lindon towards Aman. Even until recently, he acted as a protector and witness of the sorrow of his kind which he still cannot bring himself to join for a plethora of reasons. These frequent journeys to and from Imladris and the western coast where his people set sail meant that he spent a great deal of idle time studying and eventually approaching the Dwarves of The Blue Mountains, growing both accustomed to their mistrust and loud ways that have led him to consider crafting and performing jokes. Although this is a skill that is not quite suited to his stoic and reserved manners and humble ways, it is easy to deduce that his time spent in the mountains resulted in a realization that laughter is, perhaps, a universal cure destined to aid and uplift all Free Folk. Despite finding yet another and much safer passion, it can certainly be said that he will need to improve greatly on his terrible puns and humor that barely garner any laughter, even from the most simple of minds regardless of how kind they may be.

Appreciation for laughter and the Free Folk has, however, led him to set foot for the first time into the township of Bree where he has met several individuals of interest as well as finding genuine friendship and those who are not his own that enrich him with wisdom. It is because of this that he has opted to remain in this town, and this is the exact point in which the true tale of the 'Hound of Swords' begins.
