Outward Appearance

Of lordly and mighty bearing, Belenmir stands as any Dúnedain of Gondor - tall of height at nearly two meters, adorned with steely grey eyes and a proud face. His dark hair is kept long and tied behind his ears in the fashion of a free spirit, and a thick beard lines his jaw. Fair freckles run across the bridge of his nose and upon his cheeks, weathered with reddened hues from countless days beneath the sun. His speech is marked with purpose and passion, that of a man who is valiant in the face of hardship.

The mariner is clad in armor of leather and cloth, with hues of earthen and blues of Middle-earth's many seas and rivers, with embellishments of the White Tree and Gondorian filigree in fine silver, all weathered and worn from the salt spray of the sea. Such does his armor take the form of a leather corslet worn atop a gambeson, closed to his person with a thick belt. Fur-lined bracers protect his arms, and thick boots guard his lower legs. A cloak drapes from his shoulders, clasped with a brooch of Pelargir. A wrapping of leather and cloth adorns his head, keeping his hair free from his face amidst the billowing ocean wind.

At his side rests his weapons, a sword and dagger that have long been his companions. Of Westernesse make, their steel is keen as it is sturdy, and the hilts are wrapped in fine leathers. Nautical patterns are inlaid upon the blades, and the pommels bear imagery of fair harbors and the stars above. The scabbards are bound in dark blue leathers and adorned with the selfsame imagery of Ulmo's domain. Lastly it is that a haversack of fine leather hangs from his belt, what lies within rare materials and strange baubles in equal measure, rewards from his travels upon the shores of distant lands.

Background

Personality

Brimming with courage and virtue, Belenmir is a true paragon of the ideals of Gondor's true spirit, and one who extols the principled foundations upon which noble souls are wrought. Like the Faithful of old, whose blood flows distantly in his veins, he holds not the craven avarice or hubris that plagues the hearts of certain other men, instead possessing a heart of honor and goodly intent.

His spirit burns with a love of both Gondor and the sea, and this love bids him forth to explore shores both familiar and unfamiliar, where he brings a desire to learn and defend in equal measure. He is not a man quick to violence nor bloodshed, and though the noblest aspiration is peace, he knows the need to fight for that which is paramount.

To sail upon the sea-winds and perceive the varied hearts of both good and ill, and know yet the weight of the world might be a heavy burden for some, but it is that hope that drives him. His motives are not hidden - indeed, for he is true-hearted and does not shy away from that which has forged him. The sword and the sea are his to wield, and there is little that can shatter his unwavering spirit.

History

Belenmir was born the son of Baranor of Pelargir and Narieth of Dol Amroth in T.A. 2981, in the twilight years of the Third Age. Raised amidst the coast of Gondor within the fair city of Pelargir, Belenmir grew up to love the sea, instilled within him by the stories of his ancestors of Westernesse, the majesty of Gondor's many ships taking to the sea, and the inspiring stories of sailors that would return from distants shores.

When the young Belenmir came of age, he yearned to take to the sea himself, and so he took work upon several fishing and merchant vessels that berthed from Pelargir. For many years, he worked aboard them, learning the ways of sailing and seacraft from those who knew the sea, and he found great skill with the sword, taught by those former knights of Gondor that now found work upon the ships.

After his purpose was fulfilled, he took the coin he had earned to the shipwrights of Pelargir, and commissioned forth a ship to be his own. Soon it was that the Gondorian sloop was finished, and he named it the 'Westward Star', in memory of his ancestors who came from Westernesse. Belenmir took then to the sea, with sword and dagger at his hip, and a handy haversack at his side, and thus it was that he set upon the path of a mariner, like the great Men in the stories of old. From distant shores to near, he sails now evermore, and brings with him the true heart of Men wherever it is the sea-winds take him.
