Outward Appearance

Evrain, a young man barely past his twentieth summer, is a warrior of Rohan through and through. He moves with the easy grace of one born in the saddle, his frame lean and agile, built for speed and wielding a spear. His most striking feature is his disarming grin, often flashing to reveal a hint of mischief in his bright eyes that also hold a quiet kindness in them. This, coupled with a perpetually playful demeanor, makes him seem lighter, less serious than many of his hardened Rohirrim peers.

Background

As a boy, Evrain was a whirlwind of youthful energy, tearing across the meadows near his village on a pony. He would fashion wooden spears from branches and charge imaginary Orcish hordes, mimicking the thunderous charge of the Riders of Rohan he'd hear whispered about in tales and songs around the hearth fire. He was utterly captivated by the legends of Eorl and the bravery of the Rohirrim. The spear, in particular, fascinated him. He saw it not just as a weapon, but as an extension of the rider, a symbol of swiftness and skill. He would spend hours watching the riders practice in the training fields, mimicking their stances and movements, his imagination alight with tales of brave deeds and glorious battles. He would spend hours practicing clumsy thrusts and parries, his laughter echoing through the fields. His youthful energy often bordered on recklessness, earning him scolding words from his parents, but his infectious laughter and genuine enthusiasm usually melted any harshness

As he grew, his childish games morphed into dedicated training. He proved a naturally gifted spearman, his youthful exuberance translating into an agile and unpredictable fighting style. He trained relentlessly, honing his skills under the watchful eye of the village weapon-master, a grizzled older warrior named Maquin, who despite his gruff exterior, recognised Evrain’s potential. Evrain's playful nature never fully faded, however. He’d often incorporate playful jabs and feints into training spars, sometimes to the amusement, sometimes to the exasperation of his fellow trainees. This lighthearted attitude often led others to underestimate him. Opponents would mistake his smiles for weakness, his jokes for a lack of focus, only to find themselves disarmed and flat on their backs before they truly understood the danger lurking beneath the surface. He gained a reputation for being a charming rogue, more likely to offer a playful taunt than a grim battle cry, and his victories often surprised those who judged him solely by his cheerful façade.

Evrain felt a growing restlessness the familiar rhythm of village life, the predictable cycle of seasons, began to feel constricting. The stories of the wider world, whispered by traveling merchants and weary riders passing through, ignited his restless spirit. He yearned to see the wonders beyond Rohan, to face dangers more real than childish imaginings, to test his spear against true foes. He felt a pull towards the unknown, a sense that his destiny lay beyond the familiar hills and valleys of his home. He'd proven himself within his village and to Maquin, but the wider world beckoned. He yearned for more than patrol duty and the familiar rhythms of Rohan life. With Maquin's gruff blessing and a sturdy spear in hand, Evrain set out after a heartfelt farewell to his family and a somewhat less formal goodbye to a few particularly disappointed admirers.

He seeks to experience the wider world beyond the familiar borders of Rohan, to test his skills and prove his worth not just to his people, but to himself. He doesn’t consciously crave fame or fortune, but a desire for stories to tell, for experiences that will etch themselves onto his soul, fuels his journey. Perhaps, on a deeper level, he's seeking to define himself outside the expectations of his home, to forge his own path, and maybe, just maybe, find something real and lasting to anchor his restless heart.
