Background
Melisandîs is quite young for an elf, having only lived about 150 years. As such she has not yet acquired the patience of more mature elves, and tends to be hasty and impulsive. She served for years as a guard and scout around the outer perimeter of the forest of Lothlórien, her homeland, but always had a powerful desire to see more of the world. She has always been especially fascinated by the race of Men, who share many physical similarities with her people but live such brief and dynamic lives.
Almost immediately after her coming-of-age in her hundredth year, Melisandîs left her home to see the wider world for herself. She settled in a small village in Rohan, hoping to observe the lifestyles of the Men who lived there. Concealing her elven attributes to the best of her ability so as not to appear too conspicuous, she worked as a tailor and was well-accepted by the community. Melisandîs fell in love with a man of that village, but her love was left unrequited, and she departed, heartbroken, when her love married another.
Upon her return to Lórien, her father chastised her on becoming so deeply involved in the lives of mortals, but Melisandîs carried an ache in her heart for many years. One day many decades later, when she returned to that village to find so many that she had known had grown old or died, she felt at last the wisdom of her father's words, knowing that the lives of men and elves were too different to truly mingle together.
However, she could never truly forget her affection for the people of that village, and she feels a stronger loyalty to the race of Man than is typical for elves. Knowing that the time approaches when her people will leave Middle-Earth behind, she wishes to see as much of the land as she can-- and she will not leave without doing what she can to defend the land and the people that she loves.
