Little is known of Elhyas’ tumultuous past; his existence is shrouded in mystery. What little can be gathered from public records and intermittent eye-witness accounts, paints an uncertain, sporadic picture:
Elhyas was born into an impoverished family, the son of a struggling blacksmith in the city of Dale. It is thought that from a young age he left Dale and travelled far and wide, relying on his rudimentary skills as a blacksmith to earn a living in the towns and villages he passed through.
In his early twenties, Elhyas joined the Gondorian Infantry Army under the banner of the old Army of the North. His stoic, merciless attitude in battle and military acumen soon brought him glory and recognition and he rose through the ranks to captain a regiment of his own. Years of fighting to protect and guard the passes of North Ithilien and Dagorlad against the armies of Sauron hardened Elhyas into a formidable warrior.
At the height of Elhyas’ military career he fell out of favour with the Council of Gondor and was subsequently charged for committing a heinous crime; the violent murder of an esteemed aristocrat. Elhyas fled Minas Tirith before he could be captured but to add to his crimes, he abducted the daughter of a Gondorian nobleman.
Months later, Elhyas was tracked down to the town of Bree by a small band of soldiers, employed by the council of Gondor to bring the outlaw to justice. Elhyas evaded capture yet again, killing good men in his second escape from the law. The body of the nobleman’s abducted daughter was later found in the Chetwood, disfigured and mutilated. She was thought to have met her demise at the hands of Elhyas.
After this, Elhyas vanished from all records, but whispers now speak of a band of brigands and rogues united; a dark brotherhood that stalks the wilds of Eriador, led by a mysterious, fierce brute of a man…
