Daphne awakened early in the morning feeling pretty refreshed, compared to most nights. This was rather surprising consider she wasn't in her own bed, her own land or with people she knew all that well.

And I still had to leave Ered Luin on my steed, cross the Shire obliquely, then cross the northern border to arrive in Evendim. This part of the trip would probably be more pleasant, with a tavern where human warmth and a good meal would wait for me almost every night.
Dogward pressed his hands down along the old olive-green hauberk he'd just donned. It was wrinkled, a result of spending too long packed under his other belongings. No matter. It was nothing a brisk walk through the damp morning air wouldn't smooth out.
