From Frogmorton to Songburrow

From Frogmorton to Songburrow

Naima led her pony along the twisting lanes of Songburrow, a pleasant village situated in the Shire. The well-kept lawns and neatly trimmed hedges were bustling with birds and bees and the warm sun shone down. It was a far cry from the marshy Village of Frogmorton where Naima had been working for the last few months, that was not to say Naima had disliked the village because she had enjoyed her time there, the locals where very friendly and the Floating Log where she had worked was definitely one of her favorite Inns.

But Naima had seen a post advertised for an assistant at a small village Merchants and after seeing that the village had some accommodation available Naima jumped at the chance to own her own first burrow.

The job was quite a simple one, mainly keeping the place tidy and helping to keep account of stock. There were some reservations from the owners about giving the job to a Hobbit Lass, mainly due to some of the heavy lifting involved, but as soon as Naima said that she had been throwing kegs of ale around they came round to the idea and gave her the job right away.

Naima looked at the small envelope that contained the address and associated documents for her new burrow and checked it against the rather battered sign that had been nailed to the gate post of the burrow before her, this was it, her own burrow. Naima was pleased to see a rather well kept tidy garden with large flower beds and two substantial rhododendron bushes. Naima had been expecting a tatty abandoned burrow but what she found was a very clean and well decorated home; it had obviously been well prepared prior to the sale. Unpacking did not take long as all of Naima’s possessions were contained in one small travel bag.

The rest of the evening was spent cooking and eating the meal that had been kindly delivered to her door. After that Naima went and sat out under the Shire Oak in her own garden and played her lute until the sun set and the stars shone.
