Tales of a Dalish Tailor - Page 18

Dear Diary,

It has been a long while since last I wrote. I've got a lot to tell, this time... mostly good, I believe. First to last, as the events go properly!

First, I found a place where I can not only stay and live in, it is also adequately sized to double as my tailor shop! Yes, I've decided to call myself a 'tailor,' despite my inherent inability to make gloves and trousers...

Next, I went to the Prancing Pony and found miss Grace, and delivered a dress to her. I had her try it on, of course, to inspect it and make sure there were no mistakes. Thankfully, there weren't any, so she went to change back. When she did return from that, we began hearing this... this wailing. Of course, it was incredibly loud, and we couldn't help but try to find the source. And... I couldn't help but have a bad feeling about what might happen... We did find the source of the wailing, but when I saw the man's face--yes, a man was wailing like a banshee in the night--I... I had to leave the area. It was a face like mine own before I left Dale...

I then went to the main room of the Prancing Pony, where I got some tea and stood by the fire. I couldn't bear to keep looking at the man's face...

I couldn't take it...

After a while, and after some of my friends saw me, I returned to the back area to check on them... the smell of blood came in my nose, as did the smell of... well, I'm sure someone else knows the smell of a freshly dead corpse. Still being ever so curious, I continued on... and regretted the decision immediately.

The one who was wailing... wailed no more... he was a dead person, now... with all of the blood, the man was hardly recognizable...

I couldn't stay.

I left the Prancing Pony. I had just seen a dead body for the first time in my life. A very bloody dead body, at that... and while I was outside, I couldn't help but see miss Grace and mister Mungan... something felt off... and I was right, as miss Grace mounted her horse and rode towards me...

She spoke in Dalish to me... a surprise, honestly, but she told me to look after myself... Before I really thought of my words, I said I would and asked her where she was going... she only replied with 'home,' and I could only assume she meant Rohan...

Before I could say anything else, she rode past me...

I was in need of a strong tea, so I went back inside the Prancing Pony, and had my tea... I left again, so I could go home... or, the place i call home, that is.

But I saw a horse with a note on it...

I carefully approached the horse--a beautiful blue roan mare--and read the note... apparently, the one(s) who owned the mare previously could not afford to care for her.

I took extra caution in mounting the mare, ensuring I wouldn't spook her... which worked; she was perfectly calm the whole time...

After a few moments, I started to ride to the estate, feeling a need to get some fresher air and stay elsewhere for the time being... but as I rode, passing by the Town Hall, I saw miss Grace returning... they had locked the gates and so she couldn't journey to her home...

It was after a few moments of conversation that a Watchman--Mandic, as I learned later that evening was his name--came up to us and asked us to come with him into the Jail. Sadly, I feared I had already done something terribly illegal...

Thankfully, yet not-so-thankfully, I was only asked along as I was considered a witness. They only needed me to tell them what I had seen, what I remembered happening...

It wasn't much, all I truly remember happening was what I've written here already. So I wasn't even of much help to the Watch...

After all was said and done there, we were free to go, and so we went back to the Prancing Pony... well only miss Grace and I.

I was merely escorting miss Grace there.

After I had done that, I saw Mandic there... he offered to escort me to my place of residence. So, I accepted his offer after he'd insisted on it.

It was quite a pleasant walk, actually; nice and quiet. Peaceful, even. I had said my residence was not too far away, and it was very true; my shop and apartment is just up the road from the Jail and right across the street from the Town Hall.

Before I went inside, we finally introduced ourselves to each other... and, though I could tell he was nervous, he asked me to have a drink with him.

I agreed, but I told him another time.

After I said that, I went to inside for the night.

A few days later, I saw him again, and we did have that drink... oddly enough, I liked it

Another few days later, he and I took a walk around Bree... and I will admit that I did grow to like him... we did come to rest in a somewhat secluded, but very beautiful garden... where... after he confessed to me, we shared our first kiss...

It was... very grand...

A couple of days after that, he asked me... Well...

He asked my permission for him to begin courting me...

And... I agreed.

I believe he wanted to propose marriage, but I think he realised that we've really not known each other long enough, or well enough for such an important question.

I am glad he did seem to realize it.

So I am now being courted by a Watcher of Bree... an exciting thing, I think. An I'm fairly excited over getting my shop going.

Yes, I've finally opened up shop. Something I am proud.

I've spent much time as of late sewing clothes to put on display; an effort not wasted. All I truly need to wait for, now, is customers to come and see the items, at the very least.

It is so strange to think that I set off from Dale, unaware of what might happen. Unaware that I will meet the people I have, unaware of the events that have taken place, unaware that I might meet someone special... and I don't regret it at all...

I do not regret leaving Dale.
