Descendent of the Ship Kings
At the death of his father, Thaldir, Cuthanon took his seat at the Council of the Sea-Captains. Though the title is not hereditary, most agreed that Cuthanon's experience and aptitude for the position was undeniable. However, Cuthanon's strict sense of honour and duty gave him unique challenges in terms of the political aspect of the position and he made some rather cunning enemies amongst the some of the less savoury minor Lords of Lebinnin.
As a Sea-Captain upon the council, Cuthanon has a voice in the major planning of Pelargir's defense, and so the defense of a great Majority of Gondor from the encroaching Haradrim and Corsairs. He has Lord Sirgon's ear and is in a position to garner great support from his fellows and mount true change within the armies of Lebinnin.
With his likable and infinitely trustworthy manner, he is suited at least to building bridges, though perhaps not in defending them from insidious outside influences. And, unfortunately, three years into holding his seat Cuthanon's political adversaries struck a blow.
An official letter lead him to Minas Tirith, with an offer of a commission as a Captain within one of the few outriding Battalions in Minas Tirith's forces. It had been a request approved and encouraged by the Steward and, whilst refusable, doing so would have put him in a vulnerable and unfavourable position at any court. With that in mind, he accepted the commission and quickly arranged for his seat to be held temporarily by a good friend of his. (Much to his enemy's dismay.)
Now he puts all his effort into fulfilling his new commission, still thoroughly dedicated to Gondor's defense, even whilst he plans his eventual return to Pelargir.
