Tobiasz looked around, everything had taken on a blood red hue. Taking in a deep breath he began to cough as his lungs began to fill with the smoke that hung thick in the air. Looking down he watched as the small droplets of blood fell to the ground.
The fighting had been intense he had seen the death of Ned Pruner. Ned was his own age and had just started as the jailers assistant. Seeing Ned getting bashed to the floor Tobiasz filled with rage and tried hurrying over to him but he got held up as two brigands charged to meet him. Ned should never have been in the fight he was not a warrior. Tobiasz wiped his hand across his face blood and tears mixed into one.
Looking up into the night sky Tobiasz let out his rage, screaming till he could no longer and needed air.
“I should have killed that dog, Calder Cob long before I gutted him like a pig tonight. I told him if he fucked with us I would kill him and I did.”
Stumbling off Tobiasz made his way to the fountain. Placing his hands under the flowing water he began splashing some on his face. Cleaning the blood and tears from his eyes. Looking around now the red hue was now replaced with the colour of black coal, he now saw Archet for what it was a burning mass of buildings.
Looking around now he could see the bodies of some of the townsfolk, his folk, people he had known all his life.
That was when he froze in terror, Cat where is Cat. Frantically looking searching watching for a bow on any of the dead Tobiasz stumbled around yelling out her name.
Looking up from the dead on the ground Tobiasz wiped away the tears, there in front of him was Cathriona. His heavy heart suddenly lifting at the sight of her. Racing over to her he gathered her up in his arms and hoisted her off the ground he crushed her against his breastplate, “thanks to the gods your alive” he whispered in her ear. Placing her back on the ground he looked her in the eyes and asked, “where is Balaich?”
Between gasps of air, Cat flicked her head over her shoulder. Looking passed Cat Tobiasz could see Balaich doing what he did best, easing peoples suffering.
Again Tobiasz looked to the heavens but this time instead of shouting he gave a silent prayer to the gods for the three lives they spared that day.
Suddenly the full weight of Tobiasz threatened to pull Cat to the ground. Quickly she looked at Tobiasz he was out on his feet. A steady flow of blood run down the right side of his face from his hairline it cascaded over his right eye to disappear under his breastplate. Grabbing him she felt something protruding from between his armour straps on his side. She could recognise it just by touch, the broken shaft of an arrow, calling for help she quickly had him stretchered over to Balaich.
