The Black Steel happened across a secluded fisherman's house in the middle of the Trollshaws. The fisherman himself was called Archibald and was kind enough to offer the company tea and biscuits and to stay at the safety of the area outside his house for the night. However, as they were settling down, a figure appeared at the other side of the river.
Gæded and Phaewyn decided to search for the company, even though their wounds were still freshly patched up and healing. They decided to search downstream for the others, as it was a sensible place to start. They gave Eaworth a wide berth, ending up climbing a large hill. The climb was hard on the wounded pair and so they found a copse of trees and decided to rest.
Gæded had stumbled away from Eaworth, in search of safety. Phaewyn was keeping watch for the residents of Eaworth, though they did not ask her to, and so saw Gæded stumble up. Gæded collapsed onto her, and she could not hold the weight of the injured woman, with her bad arm. However, some of the soldiers came over and helped lift Gæded and took her into the camp.
Gæded saw the messenger appear, galloping fast on his horse. She wandered over to hear what he had to say, whilst the others enjoyed Lieta's stew. She did not like the news he brought, but there was no use hating him for it - now they had to get ready for the fast-approaching fight.
Gæded's heart raced as she stood before the closed gate. It was coming. These men, these soldiers, would fight for their home. So would she.
Death!
She felt slightly afraid, but she did not let it show. She was one of the eorlingas. She had to be brave.
Death!
She looked around her, at the men. Their golden hair glinted in the sunlight and their eyes sparkled with fear, excitement and determination. She felt those feelings too - she was not alone.
A quick glance at the lands before a warm breakfast. The Black Steel has been living in the wilds for about two months, looking for a source of knowledge. The sight of barrows and tombs certainly provide a concern, but it was quickly forgotten when breakfast was cooking.
