I loathe sea travel — I have only rarely willingly set foot on a ship since I stepped from our ill-gotten fleet and passed into Beleriand with my brethren many long ages ago. Every time I must, I hope never to do so again until a ship comes that will willingly bear me to Valinor.

In the late days of the First Age, Ainurél of Doriath, a broidress and weaver, was wed to Silwë of Valinor, a commander of the Noldorin military, and reputedly a master jewelsmith. This choice was unpopular m, and they were wed in solitude, speaking their vows to each other and the Valar on the sandy shore of the Gulf of Lhûn.
