Parchments. Open papers. Unspoken thoughts. Emotions and feelings and regrets, written down and thrown away. Wonderings; words, wishes and whims, blowing naked in the wind, trampled by falling feet. They would lay littered in between the cobbles of Bree. Eaten and consumed by rats and vermin, these parchments would only last for a few days at most.
