Speaking with Ruineth Part 3/3

What kind of Adventure is this?:
Story

Upon entering the Hall of Fire, we headed to Estarfin, who was standing conveniently near Sogadan. There were several folk in the place, but it was not yet late enough in the day to be crowded, if indeed it would be.

“He has spoken with me about many things, yes. Or is it something in particular to which you refer? I know he tried to drive you away from him by telling of some of his past deeds? Of the kinslayings?

And I all but bit my tongue, knowing Parnard stood close.

“He has told me all of it,” Ruineth replied, still softly, but loud enough for Parnard to open his eyes wider. “All of the blood that still clings to him, that can never be made clean.” She shuddered. “He reveled in it.”

“I did not take him from you,” Ruineth folded her arms across her chest.

I tried to sound as gentle as possible, aware my words, if not carefully chosen, could cause harm.

Not her Favourite Librarian

The Teler, Talkale, was never among my most favourite people. He was unquestionably learned, but his manner lacked much that I wondered at Lord Elrond still keeping him in his employ? This habit of his of not referring to Estarfin, Parnard or I by our appointed titles irked me that, had the matter of my searching for relevant papers not been so urgent, I would have taken down that walking bookcase on the spot. I placed my glass of wine beside me, on the bench, and kicked off my shoes. Estarfin put his wine on the floor for the moment, and stretched out his long legs. It was good to relax.

“The Hall of Fire is so empty now,” said Parnard, with a hint of wistfulness.

Estarfin closed his eyes for a moment, then looked up at the sky again. “As she always has. She has never forgotten us.” Then he looked at me, and began reciting …

I cannot remember a time when I had smiled and laughed so much. My face ached, but it was worth it, every minute. A serious declaration had it been by both of us, with a nod to the difficulties we had endured to come to this night. But it had also been light of heart and joyful, with no room for any somberness. And he was happy too. I don’t think I had ever seen him quite so content? Indeed, we both embraced this future most willingly.

“It is a glorious evening to see my two dearest friends plight their troth, “ Parnard said, grinning as if his heart would burst with happiness.

“It is a blessed night. Thank you for being here, Parnard…and you, Erestor”
