I Veryanwe: Part Six

What kind of Adventure is this?:
Story

We stood facing each other, but a little over an arm’s length apart. Ithil shone down upon us, touching him with a true-silvered hand. The warm breeze ruffled both our hair. All I could see was the culmination of my dreams. Oh, there were other things I hoped for, other things I dreamed, but this was and always had been the heart of my heart. That he would know happiness. That we would be as one.

Eventually we were rescued, of course, else I would not be recounting this.

I walked onto the biting ice of the Hithaeglir to save him. He walked into the flames of a burning house to save me. Perhaps we are equal now? Not that I ever held it to be some sort of contest, nor that I would not do it again. Thinking thus upon our past reminds me of the talk we had when returning from Imladris to Falathorn for the first time. We stopped on the edge of the Old Forest, just in sight of the Brandywine bridge.

Estarfin reached out to carefully touch the fabric of my dress. “It is beautiful,” he said. He smiled brightly, softly, almost as if he couldn’t quite believe what he was seeing.

(Quenya) " Yes, oh yes. My heart is overflowing. Most willingly and humbly do I add, before Eru Iluvatar, and our witnesses, that I have loved you from my youth, and that I will have you until the breaking of the world, and beyond."

It was just us, with Parnard and Marawendi as our witnesses. We called upon Tintalle, Lady of the Stars, and Eru Iluvatar, as our people before us had done. Our words were simple and short, we needed no long oaths from each other.

(Quenya) "Before Tintalle, and humbly, before Eru Iluvatar himself, he who awakened our people on the shores of Cuivienan, I ask you to be my wife, until the world is broken and made anew, and beyond. Will you have me? "

That time in the Golden Wood proved to be a nightmare. Traversing Caradhras was bad enough in good conditions.Thankfully there were no storms, nor fresh snowfall. But Estarfin grew increasingly confused, so that Parnard and I took it in turns to lead him, lest he missed his footing. By the time we reached the eastern side of the mountain we were exhausted.

Time Together

We spent much of our time at Numenstaya, working on the the walls and  general 'light fortifications'. It would never be easy to take us unaware again. Ceuro, Barahirn, Yrill and Filignil all helped. Parnard gave much vocal encouragement. The girls gave assistance where they could.

But when we were able, Estarfin and I, and sometimes Parnard, took short rides out in Ered Luin, and to the edges of The Shire, which we loved. Just being together amid the beauty of the lands, and under the stars was rest for us.

Parnard straightened up and cleared his throat. "The Witnesses are ready." he said.
