The Autumn Feast

“Greetings, Estarfin! You are just in time for the start of the feast,” said Parnard, bowing carefully so that his antlers did not fall off. These had been tied to an old steel helm that he found in a cupboard, and when he put it on, it took him back to the days when laughing Wood-Elves roamed underneath the forest’s misty eaves wearing such garb.

“I am sure King Thranduil holds magnificent Feasts,” said Filignil. Never had she attended one, but during her travels in the lands of the Wood-elves she had heard of them. “They are not quite the same as our feasts of old, and even celebrate different times of the year, but they can be magnificent nonetheless.”

Story

The day had been an exceptionally busy one. The Autumn Feast was drawing very close. Then there were preparations for the winter months in general, and then, the Lady had told her that she, Lord Estarfin and Master Parnard would all be heading for Mirkwood shortly. How long they would be away for was uncertain.

After the meal, the four elves take a short swim in the lake under the stars. Estarfin takes some persuading, and when he does get in the lake he mostly shivers. Parnard swims off like a fish, and Filignil proves she can sleep while while floating on her back. Danel's main concern is how to warm up a freezing Estarfin again.

Celebrating Autumn

Parnard and Filignil had been working on a suitable Mirkwood based celebration to share with their friends. There was plenty of food and drink to go around. It should easily last the required week out.

But that first night was Parnard's specialty, Tripe! The others ate it with varying degrees of enjoyment. The roast venison seemed to be acceptable, and the rabbit and pigeon pies disappeared swiftly. Good conversation, after Parnard had removed his antlers, meant they hardly missed music at all.

Friendly Discussion

Filignil and Danel have a 'friendly' discussion over whether boots on the table are acceptable. After making a contribution on the side of 'yes', Parnard wisely leaves them to it. Despite being a great asset, it is uncertain that Filignil will still have a job, as Danel points her towards the door.

Barahirn, the stable and hounds master, and Filignil the housekeeper and keeper of birds, await the return of their Lady, Lord Estarfin and Parnard. There is not much time left to prepare for the Autumn Festival, let alone the forthcoming departure to Mirkwood.

Another Day at the Beach

Diary

By the time Parnard decided he had enough of rock diving, the stars were fading, and the skies above the sea were turning pallid with the whitening dawn. He swam back to where he had left Danel and Estarfin floating in the shallower waters, not really swimming at all. The three elves, desirous of rest, waded out of the surf to dry themselves on the beach.
