A Week Long Festival

The Greenwood Festival went on all week. Each evening there were fresh delicacies to try (and a very few to avoid) and the wine never came near running out. We could all relax without any undue pressure, save knowing we would soon be away to Imladris, and then the Greenwood itself.

I thought then that, come next summer, I would have as near a Noldorin celebration for the Gates of Summer as I could. It was pleasing to learn more of each others customs and tastes.

I spoke with Filignil about sparring with me from time to time. I needed to train more regularly. Of course it was Estarfin I needed to train with, that I could learn better to fight at his side, but he was strangely reticent. So it was to the experienced Filignil I turned.

After Parnard assured Danel that he would only listen to the conversation, and not say a word, to his surprise Ruineth turned to him, and speaking quickly and quietly, said that she wished to speak with him, alone. Then she led him away to a quiet corner beside a beech tree, and told him:

So it seems I am Mistress of Numenstaya.

Not through any doing or grace of my own did this come about. I was simply in the right place at the right time.

Upon entering the Hall of Fire, we headed to Estarfin, who was standing conveniently near Sogadan. There were several folk in the place, but it was not yet late enough in the day to be crowded, if indeed it would be.

“He has spoken with me about many things, yes. Or is it something in particular to which you refer? I know he tried to drive you away from him by telling of some of his past deeds? Of the kinslayings?

And I all but bit my tongue, knowing Parnard stood close.

“He has told me all of it,” Ruineth replied, still softly, but loud enough for Parnard to open his eyes wider. “All of the blood that still clings to him, that can never be made clean.” She shuddered. “He reveled in it.”

“I did not take him from you,” Ruineth folded her arms across her chest.

I tried to sound as gentle as possible, aware my words, if not carefully chosen, could cause harm.

Not her Favourite Librarian

The Teler, Talkale, was never among my most favourite people. He was unquestionably learned, but his manner lacked much that I wondered at Lord Elrond still keeping him in his employ? This habit of his of not referring to Estarfin, Parnard or I by our appointed titles irked me that, had the matter of my searching for relevant papers not been so urgent, I would have taken down that walking bookcase on the spot. With words I hasten to add.

Both Estarfin and Parnard had departed the house by the time I rose from slumber. It was still early though, so I had plenty of time to bathe and dress, and make my way down to the Last Homely House for a few words with one of the librarians, before setting off to the forges to speak with Ruineth.

"Ride on!"
The black tide of orcs and wicked Men drew nearer, a few of their crude arrows whistling through the air as they came into range. Still, she hesitated, unwilling to leave him. "You gave me your word Danel. The time has come to leave these burning shores. Ride on, to the harbour while you still can." He looked at the charging hordes, they seemed to not be any closer somehow.
Danel reached down from her steed and laid a hand upon his shoulder. "I will not leave you here alone. Come with me?"
